The Gadsden Flag: 'Don't Tread on Me' originated during the Revolutionary War against Great Britain. Since then, it's been used by many groups on the left and the right for 250 years, from civil rights and environmentalism to gun rights and fiscal conservatism.
The Libertarian Party was the first U.S. political party to adopt the Gadsden Flag as a core ideological symbol, beginning in the 1970s after the party's founding in 1971. Before then, it was strictly a historical military flag from the 1700s, until Libertarians reclaimed it.
When you see this flag, be reminded of the Libertarian principles it represents: self-ownership, individual rights, non-interventionism, and ENDING THE WAR STATE: America First, Government Last.
